  1. I gave my players a hat that detects the nearest source of alchoy

  2. They are magnifying lamps. They are super handy when painting minis!

  3. They are Army painter paints. We aren’t made of gold here.

  4. What are the game sessions like? Or is it more of a posing thing than anything?

  5. No, it’s a really thing we do. The sessions usually only last about 30 minutes and there is some redirection, and reminders that she can’t control the characters but for the most part it is very similar to what you see here. In this session we found an area in the cave that has a wall with a “wriggly” surface and when we got close to it an eye opened up. Mom’s character decided to try and attack it and we found out that it was a beholder eye and we made it angry. The beholder scared moms character and immediately started to attack sisters character. We did a little bit of combat and found out the beholder was friends with two dragons but it was bedtime before we could finish.

  6. So far no player death. Sometimes the monsters die but she just says “annnnnd their dead!” And that’s the end of it.

  7. I highly recommend The Neverending Story with the 12 year old if she still likes to read with you. My ten year old is loving it. I hope he still wants to read with me when he’s 12!!

  8. We read that together a couple of years ago. It was fantastic although I still called it Fantasia

  9. We read that together a couple of years ago. It was fantastic although I still called it Fantasia

  10. We read that together a couple of years ago. It was fantastic although I still called it Fantasia instead of Fantastica

  11. Hope everyone had a fantastic and adventurous Thanksgiving! We got to sneak a little Dungeons and Dragons into our family gathering. The Girls got to play a impromptu game of D&D with their cousins. My wife set up a sewer for the kids to explore and a boss battle with a beholder. She ended up DM’ing a game for them that had them begging for more. It seems D&D is going to be a traditional thing when the family gathers together now.

  12. We have enjoyed seeing the creativity from the community and have had some laughs for sure!

  13. As a photojournalist I gotta say: this photo is awesome. As a D&D nerd I gotta say: go get em girl!

  14. Its a fantastic pic, but I hope they are ok with us turning their kids into memes. They did post it to the internet themselves, but I still feel trepidation about it...

  15. Original poster of the picture here. It’s okay with us. The picture is harmless

  16. Oh good to hear! I just have some teacher friends who are incredible strict to never post pics of their students online, so that aversion to putting kids pics out there online mighta rubbed off on me.

  17. No worries! We appreciate the concern and consideration!

  18. Oh my god you´re correct. That´s creepy as fuck.

  19. We are an account that is about sharing the hobby with your family. It’s not about “getting internet points” for us. We honestly believe that Dungeons and Dragons is an amazing learning and bonding tool that parents can share with their children. Our hope is to inspire more people to take up the hobby with their own children and we provide an example of how to do that.

  20. You guys were all so kind with Izzy’s post yesterday that we thought we would share this Timelapse of her prepping for her big game. As you can see she was very serious about making her game special for her players.

  21. The Critical Role merch is always the best! Their attention to the little details always make each piece feel special. Love the logos on the pull strings! Love the thumb holes! Love how comfy it is!

  22. The girl in the cap seems quite a bit older than your daughter...

  23. This pic was taken at my daughter’s DnD bday party. She invited her regular group but one of the kiddos couldn’t make it. One of the moms had played before so she stood in for the missing player. They were both playing druids at the time which helped too. It was really nice to have her run that character for me. One less thing to try to juggle at the party lol

  24. Wife of the OP: Funny enough we are getting flack from local family that we are still social distancing (We live in Texas)

  25. I meant how did you draw them to Nightstone xD sorry!

  26. Oh sorry! I used the Lady Nandar calling for skilled mediators to help with the elves to the north.

  27. Ah, same - in the end my party didn't even investigate the elves haha. We're just into chapter 3 at the moment, you guys have a long road ahead!

  28. spoilers Well with the lady dead and all no body to give them any kind of payment so that makes sense.)

  29. That's so cute! I bet dnd also helps with the younger ones math skills! Wish my whole family was all into dnd but my adult sisters and I all play together and that's good enough for me!

  30. Absolutely helps with math skills, but also social skills and learning actions have consequences and that you can’t do everything perfect all the time. I am convinced that D&D could be an incredible development tool for children.

  31. Man one of these days I need to do this with my family. I just need to work up the nerve to DM.

  32. You should totally do it! Something we try to teach our kids with D&D is that we can’t be perfect all the time. We just have to try.

  33. Today my wife and two daughters Izzy (4 years old) and Emma (10 years old) started a campaign of Storm King’s Thunder. While we have been playing separate games with each of our girls we thought everyone was finally ready to play together. Our first session went really well. While they didn’t make it very far, I think you can tell from the pictures that everyone had a blast. Amanda is playing a Dragon Born Cleric. Izzy is playing a High Elf Monk. Emma is playing a Tabaxi Wizard.

  34. You should definitely tweet that at the CR crew, I'm sure they will love it! So cute!

  35. Well, if she's watching CR regularly, she's heard that already and many more new words.

  36. They switched weapons, which while not making a mechanical difference, would make a huge difference (IRL) if someone is used to one thing and not the other.

  37. Exactly! The switching the weapons was used to explain why they were both terrible shots!

  38. I’m pretty sure they were taking a photo of the mini, and you happened to be in the background.

  39. Sure, but the photo was framed specifically to include me.

  40. Is this the same place where the bard acctualy Brought the instrument. Cause it basically looks exactly the same to me.

  41. Can you advice how most easily introduce dnd to kids?

  42. Mat, my whole family is so excited for this book! Thank you for being such an inspiration to us.

  43. Thanks for the shout out! We are working on getting more content out soon! But you can check out our channel

  44. How adorable! How old? I'm going to run a game for my daughter, nieces and nephew this weekend! I'm excited to teach the little ones how to play
