I'm no luthier, yet still working on my first build. But I've been playing guitar for 30 years, and the answer is no. You need the tension of the springs to counter the tension of the strings. If you block the trem until tuned and then remove the block the springs will take the tension and the whole bridge will move and the tuning will go off.
Alright. I guess since Fender was a smaller company at the time when these guitar were made, they had to keep what was profitable. But it didn’t mean they were flawed.

I meant to say I will reduce the tension of the springs in the back first so that block would drop out. Would it stay in tune then?
