Why do you think is it practice for podcast hosts to read the Ad Copy instead of playing a commercial produced by the advertiser?

  1. I imagine it’s cheaper for the company to get the host to sell a service or product rather than budget, create, and release an ad.

  2. I think they assume many of the listeners have a high respect for or look up to the podcaster in some way, and that they at least values their opinions enough to listen to their podcast. I think the mindset is that the listeners will be more likely to purchase the product if they hear the podcaster recommend it to them, even though the podcaster was paid to do so.
