Do people often wait to get their driver's license?

  1. Definitely. I used to be hip, but what's hip now is strange and scary. Might as well welcome these weird days.

  2. Think of all the low to middle income people, especially those who live in urban areas, who have no family car. Even the head of household doesn't own a car and never drives. It's all buses and bikes.

  3. That's certainly a different experience than mine. We were poor as well, but a car was the way out. Without a car and a license, we were stuck. Thanks for the insight.

  4. I didn’t bother to get my license until I was 20 because I didn’t have a car so it didn’t matter. Ended up not being able to afford a car until I was 27.

  5. It depends. Some people can't afford to get a drivers license. Some people can't afford a car to take their test in. There are some areas like new York city, for instance, where driving is slower than walking because of all the traffic and there are taxis everywhere. Also, dmv is not open all of the time. Many people work Some pretty crazy hours and would have to take time off of work to get it. That's fine if you aren't one of the 74% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck, but for the rest of us, missing a day of work may end up leaving us homeless.

  6. as soon as it was legal to get the 1st stage license mom had me at the DMV. In NC there were (are?) 3 stages before full driver's license if you upgraded asap

  7. I got my permit from 17 and my license at 19. I probably wouldn't have done at all but my mom was really pressuring me to get it so I could help with driving.

  8. I waited until I was 23. I was terrified of driving (even many years later, I struggle). I burst into tears when I took the test. Had to have been awkward as fuck for the test lady!

  9. I wish I had waited. Cause now I probably won't drive much or at all while I'm at university. The city here is horrible for cars and you're better off with a bike. So I definitely won't get a car in the next 2-3 years.
