Stern Twitter: Since last night, @RossChastain has gotten almost double the number of new Twitter followers that @AustinCindric got in the 48 hours after the Daytona 500, per @Zoomph. Cindric gained about 5,000 in 48 hours, Chastain has gotten more than 8,000 in less than 24 hours.
Not a surprise. Someone wins the Daytona 500 every year, but Chastain's move was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Way bigger moment overall in the history of the sport.
Chastain better get the most popular driver now after this
I love how much this escaped containment, I saw people on tumblr who are not into motorsports of any kind reblogging and talking about wanting to watch races after seeing the clip.
Tuning in expecting something like that to happen again but in reality they'll most likely tune-in and get turned off by "boring" racing with little to no passing/action.
My daughter texted me to ask about it today. She said kids were talking about it at school.
That’s like saying I want to start watching football because a team completed a 65 yard Hail Mary.
In one weekend, you had one dude establish himself as the ultimate villain (Ty Gibbs) and another establish himself as the ultimate cult hero (Chastain)
Ty has spent this entire year establishing himself as the ultimate villian
I already saw Ty as the ultimate villain after he started a fight without taking his helmet off first.
Makes sense, the Daytona 500 made no stir in the non-NASCAR world. Chastain made a bigger stir than anything NASCAR related has in years.
My mom texted me about that move by Chastain. First time since Danica's Indy debut that she's given a shit about anything racing related.
Imagine if Twitter existed when Cole Trickle did this for his first win.
The Ross Chastain “Don’t Give a Sh-t Tour” has finally paid off.
I still don't know what "Moose" is on the hood of his car, but man did they get the biggest bang for a buck of any sponsor I can think of. Anyone and everyone has seen that video clip by this point.
Best since the TUMS heartburn turn for sure.
The Loyal Order of Moose
Become a Moose! It’s for Moose Lodges thing. Like the Shriners I think.
A "club/lodge" that has bars in just about every small town in the country. Similar to the VFW, and the American Legion.
I think I finally have a new favorite driver after Jeff Gordon retired, yea I'm a casual racing fan.
I've been pretty much a neutral fan of the sport in general for many years. No fanatic support for any one driver in particular.
He's entered my top 3, maybe even top 2 guys now. Need to change my flairs.
This is awesome. Glad we are finally enjoying some good press. Denny Hamlin gotta be absolutely sick though.
Man, the way denny's handled this is starting to make me kinda like him + the fact he hasn't won a championship yet i may have to pull for him next season
Instant Legend.
I've had a Ross Chastain shirt since the beginning of the season and nobody has ever made a comment on it today I wore it to Disney and got a million comments
Ross Chastain ain't nothin to fuck with
I have a very strong feeling out of the 4 championship drivers, Chastain’s going to have the biggest media presence & microphones in front of this upcoming finale at Phoenix.
Chastain better get the most popular driver now after this!!!
Normal driver: noooooo you have to slow down to hit the apex
I hadn’t thought about nascar in a decade and here am I because of that. So I would say it’s the best thing in nascar for years.
Count me as one of those new followers
This is great. AND we know they are REAL followers because Elon just saved free speech!
I would’ve expected both to be higher for some reason.
those are still such baby numbers for how much publicity it got
Adam Stern's (
As much as I hate that it bumped Denny out, stuff that gets otherwise uninterested people talking is always good for NASCAR
I know this is a long shot but has anyone calculated or released the expected sponsorship exposure value that this move has brought? (I have looked all over Twitter but I may have missed it) TIA
I'm just very happy that nascar made news for a positive and cool reason! Had people on my TL who weren't fans of nascar talking about how cool it was.
