Have fun at the show! I would have totally locked up and at best incoherently muttered a hi Billy. Then spent the rest of the night saying wtf did I just do there man…. Cool story!!
I did lock up when I met him over 20 years ago. Luckily I had a friend nearby who snagged a moment of his attention. I just wanted a handshake but I got two hugs! I chose my hero well! 😍
So awesome. I love hearing stories about people meeting BC. It's cool that you were respectful of his time while he was with his family. Every time I've ever met him he was super nice. There were times Ive met him where he got annoyed at drunk people asking stupid questions, but i didnt blame him for that. One of the best times I met him was back in 2007. A friend I know from online SP groups and I met him out back of the venue he was playing about 4 hours before the show. It was just three of us talking about faith and spirituality for almost a half hour. It was cool. As intelligent as he is he was a super normal and down to earth guy. I got meet Jimmy too. At the he and I both smoked cigarettes. We talked about good spots to eat in my city, and I got to show him all of my SP tattoos. Really nice guy.
I think I could handle meeting him in other contexts... but randomly running into him and his family like that in the hotel would be so surreal I would be babbling.
You handled it better that I would have! I would probably cry. One time I met Fred Penner (Canadian children's musician who had his own TV show back in the 80's). I didn't mean to but as soon as he said hi to me the tears came flowing in and all I could mumble was that Sandwiches was my favorite song by him. He just hugged me and said thanks lol.
Awesome story! I've been a huge SP fans since 1992 and the extent of my personal connection/experience is being a few feet from the stage during very small/intimate concerts.
Worked for Guns N Roses manager back in the 90’s and we were in the running to manage Billy then, talked to him a bunch on the phone. But he went with Sharon Osborne instead and it’s well documented how that turned out haha. He was interesting back then to say the least.
Billy Corgan was saying fans don't like that he's into the wrestling thing because it breaks the illusion that he's 100% devoted to goth rock all the time, and I might be guilty of that, building him up so much as an artist, that if I saw him on the street I'd feel like I didn't really want to know that he was somehow a normal person who does normal people things.
A friend of mine has spent time at his house on a number of occasions, through a mutual friend of theirs. She's not a fan of the band and isn't starstruck in any way, she's just someone who is part of the Chicago art scene.
I saw Billy Corgan at a grocery store in Oklahoma City yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
Congrats and happy for you! My first tattoo was the SP heart bc it was both the initials for a girl we rocked each other's world for 5 years (she, normal, loved it) and is the Smashing Pumpkins heart (directly lifted from the Earphoria cover) but I too never got to see them live growing up until later this year!!!!🤯
Have fun at the show. I met Billy multiple times back in 1991 at some small gigs in NYC. Very polite and yeah, he's tall.
Jesus, you were at CBGB's in 91 with the pumpkins? Fuckin' lucky man.
All I’m going say is, “Mr. Corgan, I know you read the subreddit, I’m in room 222. Hook me up with tagging along! Please”
Have a good gig !!
Yeah I wish I could have asked to cruise with them to the gig or something. I would have worked too. Lmao.
Awesome man! Have fun at the show 🤙🏼

You prob also saw his wife and kids (;
Yes I did. They all seemed very nice.
Are they married? I thought they weren't. But that was a few years ago.
Very cool! Enjoy the show

What a great story - talk about being at the right place at the right time!

That’s so cool! You’re lucky, dude! Enjoy the concert

Wow what a crazy story! What are the chances you buy the ticket and meet the man himself on the same day???!!
Not just in the same day, but in the same hour and he’s staying in the same hotel and the same floor

Ugh, this thing again. Not real, folks.
