The absolute irony

  1. 4chan is free to use. Elon wants to charge 8 dollars so that some free speech is seen more than others. If he was any denser he would create a black hole.

  2. He bans any tweet that says anything negative about him. There was a tweet that imply that he have a receding hairline and no luck with girls, and it was banned.

  3. Right? What a genuinely stupid move. That will make it so new advertisers won't come aboard because they know they'll get slammed eventually too. To hell with that. Sell some pillows, I guess.

  4. Why do all the nationalist right wing clowns always bitch about “free speech” when they’re the ones that are engaging in censoring anyone that calls them out on their shit? He sounds so fucking childish and uneducated, “WHy u piCkinG oN me, pPl are So mEan, itZ noT FaiR!” Literally sounds like trump.

  5. Enjoy having your wits while you do. One day you will be as sharp as grandma/pa. Most people just don't make a spectacle of it.

  6. All billionaires HATE the free market, because they do everything in their power to stifle competition, reduce innovation or have literally any other company make money, if they themselves can’t control it.

  7. To add to this, conservatives going on neutral platforms and complaining that the people on them tend to agree with liberal ideas, insisting that it absolutely must be evidence of some kind of leftist cabal, because they can't concieve of liberal ideas actually being organically popular, then starting their own platform after being told to fuck off is part of a historical pattern that has existed on the Web since forever. The only difference here is that instead of starting his own platform, Musk simply bought the neutral platform to try to bring it in line with what he sees on Fox.

  8. Absolutely spot on. I rail on Elon any time he makes the news. I am glad everyone finally sees what a shit he is and has always been.

  9. Same kinda origins too, daddy gave him money and he used it to make business deals and take all the credit for other people's work.

  10. One way in which they are very different that I am eternally grateful for is Elon was not born in the United States. So he can't run for president as far as I know

  11. Same. Although at first I pegged him as some kind of super villain, now it seems he's just the regular old rich shitty villain. Don't we have enough of those?

  12. I still remember when criticizing Musk would net me so many downvotes. I feel totally vindicated, lmao. And this is why you don’t form a cult of personality around billionaires.

  13. It tends to happen when people surround themselves with yes men. They never know when they have a dogshit idea or take because no one is willing to be level with them.

  14. Elon Musk wanted to be liked by the cool kids. He's so desperate to be admired, to be thought of as Tony Stark or similar. But sometimes it's hard to get the cool kids to like you when you're kind of a douche.

  15. The first amendment says "Congress shall make no law..." Despite popular belief it only names congress, and doesn't say anything about Apple, Inc.

  16. If I had the bulk of the internet disagreeing with just about every move I make, I would, at the very least, re-evaluate my perspective on whatever the hell I'm doing

  17. Musk is just saying the quiet part out loud. Free speech for his type of people is forcing others to tolerate and fund fascist speech. They have absolutely no problem with banning books, ideas, and canceling people.

  18. The right to free speech means the government can't arrest you for what you say. It doesn't mean that anyone else has to listen to your bullshit or host it while you share it. The 1st amendment doesn't shield you from criticism or consequences. If you're yelled at, boycotted, have you're show cancelled, or get banned from an internet community, your free speech rights aren't being violated. It's just the people listening think you're an asshole and they're showing you the door. Companies are showing what they think of Elon's ideas and beliefs.

  19. Liberals support free speech so everyone has a voice, conservatives support free speech so only they have a voice and what do conservatives do with their version of free speech, lie.

  20. I literally did a speech on him in college in a Speech and Debate course in 2014. I was so impressed by the reusable rockets that I read his fucking biography and everything. Had to rehearse the speech several times so I got a good grade for it, worked hard on my research and the PowerPoint…..I even have a video of it somewhere because our professor would tape us so we could watch ourselves afterwards. So fucking embarrassing now.

  21. I met a super antisemitic guy on Twitter and when I insulted him I got perma banned but the guy being anti semetic wasn’t, Twitter has gone to shit

  22. Hey conservatives, do you want a textbook example of virtue signaling, so that you can finally understand what that phrase means? This is it. Read and learn.

  23. Notably, Twitter facilitated communication during the arab spring, where the people organized to stand against and even overthrow several broken and corrupt government regimes throughout the middle east - including some participation in places like Saudi Arabia, for example.

  24. The tweet telling "independent minded voters" who to vote for was worse. This guy can rot in his narcissistic hell for all I care.

  25. Man really spent 44 billion on this site just so he can turn it into his own personal political echo chamber

  26. So only free speech when you they use this idiot's platform? So I choose not to participate, I am therefore against free speech? His logic is fucked up.

  27. At this point, he's just pandering to his conservative base. They don't care to understand how his argument is logically flawed. They just want to be outraged.

  28. Does anyone else get the creeping feeling that this isn’t an accident? Narcissistic celebrity with a worldwide megaphone, keeping us all talking about how fucking nuts they are (and therefore giving them more exposure). Meanwhile, huge news is cooking in another part of the world. In this case, protests in China. Cake & circuses or whatever.

  29. Didn't he dunk on Trent Reznor for leaving Twitter too? Like, dude, you can't just screech about "muh free speech" whenever someone chooses not to be around you. It's like something a kid on the playground would do.

  30. Homie is literally firing people who speak out about him while simultaneously moaning about how companies pulling ads is an attack on free speech.

  31. Bro this is exactly like that episode in which Bart goes to a Fox Interview as the most hated kid in US and the first question is "What do you hate the most in America? Is it freedom?"

  32. Apple doesn’t like what he’s doing so he calls it death of free speech, seems like an average twitter user to me

  33. 90% of people shouting about free speech, I believe, have never read 1A. Literally only protects the people from the government making laws against freedom of speech or freedom of the press. Private companies can get rid of you, ban you if your "free speech" doesn't jive with them.

  34. cancel culture is literally the free market deciding that association with X is not profitable anymore

  35. I thought that clown was a LiebertAryan? Why's he complaining of market forces now? Hypocrisy the fuck much there, Ewwlon?

  36. Apple choosing to advertise or not isn't even free speech related because the government isn't even involved, unless Elon is referring to the fact that none of his businesses would survive without his government funding programs he's taking advantage of because he's a shit business owner

  37. Fuck that. Fuck normalising corporations having free speech. Apple doesn’t have free speech because it isn’t a person. This has nothing to do with free speech.

  38. “Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.” Jean-Paul Sartre (Portrait of an Anti Semite)

  39. It's really hard to understand his endgame here (assuming that he has one). If/when Twitter goes under due to his mismanagement, is he going to say that this was his goal all along?

  40. It pains me that some people will see that tweet and all they take from it is “apple…” “…hate free speech” and will think “argh argh argh fuck apple”

  41. Whiny Lony wants to force Apple to spend advertising money on ruined Twitter. Because he feels so cancelled if they don't.

  42. Anyone who thinks Elon is some sort of business genius... Anyone who thinks he will end up in business textbooks, you may actually be right, although not in the way you think.

  43. A company doesn't want their ads mixed in with a bunch of people writing racist/sexist/bigoted comments on your platform? Wanna see my shocked face?

  44. Free speech is when companies are compelled to spend money supporting controversial businesses and organizations against their will.

  45. Elon is full of it. The fame has got to him. He is becoming into Kanye. I really thought he was going to make a difference in a positive way, but something happen in past 2-3 years.

  46. Our theory is Elon is acting like a conservative jackass to get red America, who usually doesn’t support EVs, to get on board with his brand. And eventually buy into Tesla.

  47. It's also amazing to tell everyone how one of your biggest advertisers decided you were toxic enough to not do business, this company has put up criticism of it's sweatshops in China for over a decade now and Twitter is too toxic for them.

  48. Other people have explained the free speech thing, but I mean, you did also threaten to make a smart phone, why would they pay a rival?
