I got hit by a truck

  1. Insurance payouts are based on recovering damages and then pain & suffering if those damages are bad enough to reasonably be considered life altering. So if you haven't sought medical care and there's no property damage you're dealing with you're not going to be entitled to any sort of settlement worthy of talking to a lawyer. Depending on how you value your time you could sue the kid in small claims court for the $ of your missed day of work.

  2. Before anything else, go to the doctor. Get checked out. It's possible for injuries to take a few days to weeks to manifest. Finding out you need 12 sessions of physical therapy to deal with an injured arm or have back problems that start showing up later this autumn would suck, but even worse if you don't get a checkup and then have to explain to their insurer why you didn't bother.
