Chicken Butchering Class

  1. Wish we could attend. As folks with 17 current backyard chickens we’ve needed to remove roosters from time to time as to not annoy our neighbors even though we are outside the city limits. Hope to see this offered again.

  2. I absolutely love that you're doing this. I cant make it this weekend or the September one, but I hope you have more in the future! Id love to bring my kids, seems very beneficial and educational.

  3. Thanks so much! I definitely want to empower people to raise their own food or at least learn and participate in the process of harvest. For this year, we just have the two batches of chickens that we are raising, but we'll have more in the future.

  4. We loved our pet chicken my son got as an Easter gift. She was really smart. When I was throwing out an old mirror, she looked at her image while I left it temporarily propped up against the garage, then she looked around the back to see if that's where the"other " chicken was. They say monkeys are smart when they do that.

  5. Hello! "Organic" is an abbreviation for the USDA's certified organic program, which is a program that strives to certify producers of food without chemicals and pesticides. You can learn more about it here:

  6. You have a very good point and are 100% correct. However, the “least harm” principal strongly applies here. You’re not going to convince most people to not eat chicken or any other “food” type animal for that matter.

  7. They can't, but this fairytale helps them distance themselves from what they're actually doing. Kind of ironic , considering the pride they take in "getting closer to their food."

  8. "Humane" slaughter is a contradiction in terms, but I suppose it is a little unrealistic to expect honesty from someone who kills animals for the fun of it.

  9. Hey Everyone! I don't know if anyone is still monitoring this thread, but due to strong demand I've added a couple more dates this fall, so I'll have 9/17, 9/24, 9/25 and 10/1. 9/25 is nearly sold out, though.
