That's what the bot is for... Or reddit's save function.
If it turns out I’ve dreamt this…I’m writing a screenplay it’s certainly got some interest.
I don't think you've dreamt it. It rings a bell, but I don't think I've read it anytime recently, so it'll be hard to track down.

Yes it does, but defo a short written piece.
It's been ages, but it wouldn't at all be out of place in Harlan Ellison's collection 'The Deathbird Stories'... I don't think that's it, but it's full of stuff that would appeal to someone who liked this...
I did have a collection of Harlan Ellisons short stories but it was a “best of” I think had the blob from “I have no mouth” on the cover….could be from there.
That reminds me something
You sure that wasn't just a variation of the Aristocrats joke?
I’m sure it’s not that.
This is killing me. I have read this in the last 1-2 years, 100% not a dream. Is it possibly from a George Saunders collection? Or maybe Vonnegut? I will keep working on this…

Good to know. Is there anything extra or different you remember?
Could it be the Aristocrats Joke?
No it’s not that, appreciate you pitching in though.
is this you?
No but that’s the same story I think.
Seems like something Fritz Leiber would write about. He liked first person murder sci-fi short story stuff from decades ago.
Is it Clifford Simak? I’m sure read it during lockdown.
Or J. G. Ballard? I know I read it recently!
The intensive care unit (1977) J G Ballard
{{Myths of the Near Future}} J. G. Ballard, 1982, tenth story in a collection of ten.
Solved!
Congratulations, you have been given 1 point for solving this post!
